Starting the Wedding Stationery Journey

You're pinning and saving your favorite wedding invitation styles and designs. Now, it’s time to see your dreams come to life - but starting the stationery process can be daunting, filled with questions about save-the-dates, invitation suites and reception materials. It can be overwhelming to know where to start, what sort of styles you like and the different types of techniques that go into designing dream wedding invitations.

We've listed some frequently asked questions we get here at Art Paper Scissors. Our founder Lisa Purcellis here to help brides and grooms with the wedding invitation design process to help simplify your journey with stationery - and truly enjoy it!

  • Are my invitations completely customizable?

Yes! Whatever your style may be, Art Paper Scissors is here to bring your vision to life. From your save-the-dates and your wedding invitations, to reception materials and thank you notes, everything is completely custom and tailored to your special day.

  • Do you specialize in any special printing techniques?

We are skilled in various printing techniques, such as letterpress, foil stamping, thermography and digital printing. Different printing techniques can give an invitation a totally different look and feel. During our initial meeting, you will be able to see samples and touch and feel the different effects to see which is best suited for you!

  • Can I use unique wording on my invitations?

Absolutely! While we have couples that stick to traditional wording, we also have plenty of different options if you want something unique. Sometimes wording is a great opportunity for a couple to put a little personality into their invitations, whether it be with fun RSVP wording or specific wedding theme-related text.

  • What is a general design and printing timeline for my save-the-dates and invitations?

Save-the-dates generally go out six to eight months before your wedding date, so it is best to start those about a year before the wedding. We like to start invitations six months before the wedding, as invitations are usually mailed out to guests two months before the big day.

  • Will I get to see a few proofs/examples of my invitations?

We design three different choices for you both to choose from; all three examples include the important details and design elements discussed at our first meeting. From these choices, you and your partner can select one design, but most APS couples take their favorite design elements from each of the three choices and tweak it to be absolutely perfect for their big day! This involves our clients in a special way, allowing them to personalize their dream invitations and be part of the creative process.

  • Can you create matching stationery for reception programs, menus, thank you notes, etc.?

  • Definitely! Designing matching stationery for different aspects of your entire wedding journey makes everything look cohesive. However, if you don’t want everything to match, then we will design what reflects you and your partner! Our entire process is focused on you two and the special love you share together.
